Here in Gargellen, the air is fresh and clear. The views are wider. The nights and days colder. At 1.430 metres above sea level, you’ll experience the mountain summer from its most beautiful side. Gargellen is located amidst impressive mountain ranges, directly at the Swiss border. The impressive summit Madrisa marks the end of the valley and thus is the origin of the hotel name. The valley separates two mighty mountain ranges: the Rätikon and the Silvretta. It stretches all the way to the Schlappiner Joch. For cars, Gargellen is the final destination – from there on, it’s all nature as far as the eye can see. The Madrisa tour is the hiking highlight, reaching the Swiss renowned health resort Klosters – and to top it off with a contrast, a visit to the pristine Walser village St. Antönien.

Hiking & Nordic walking
Pristine alps, vast plateaus and majestic summits. Hikers and mountaineers alike will find their ideal routes in Gargellen. The marked route system, fantastic landscapes and secured trails bring together mountain enthusiasts from all over the world. The interactive hiking map for the whole region Montafon keeps you informed on your destination and the trail, distances, hiking time and difficulty level. An easy experience of the mountain world!
Climbing
Climb through canyons and go for the summit – on safely secured routes! Newcomers and kids can try out the shorter routes (difficulty level B-C), just a few minutes from the hotel. Along the boulder you’ll discover the idyllic landscape called Röbi Schlucht. With fantastic views of a waterfall and the rushing mountain river, advanced climbers will get their kick at the Rongg route. Last but not least: The VAUDE route to the Gargellner Köpfe offers all daredevils a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountain landscape.
Smugglers’ trail
Explore the traces and stories of smugglers and traders: to this day, this trail offers easy routes for varied tour passing the St. Antönier Joch (2.379 m), the Gafier lake (2.290 m) and the Gafierjoch (2.415 m). The route on the border between Austria and Switzerland offers fantastic views. Lucky hikers might even meet one of the shy mountain residents. Whistling marmots, chamois and the majestic Alpine ibex live here.
Golf, Tennis & Co.
Sports are as diverse as our guests’ preferences. Only a 5-minute walk from the hotel, you’ll find 2 tennis courts for free use. The perfect green for golf enthusiasts can definitely be found at the close by golf courses in Tschagguns (12 km), Partenen (12 km), Brand (35 km) and Braz (30 km). You can also discover the beautiful surroundings on horseback with local riding stable Mateera.
